Solutions

For everything that already exists.

Most CAD starts from nothing. LensCAD starts from the thing in front of you: the part you cannot remove, the door that is already hung, the bracket somebody made by hand.

Field surveying and as-builts

Capture existing conditions on site.

Photograph installed equipment, a wall opening, a floor-plan detail or an equipment footprint. Square the photo from four corners, set scale from a tape measure in frame or one known dimension, trace what matters and dimension it on the spot. Export a dimensioned DXF before you leave.

  • Four-point perspective correction for doors, panels and openings
  • Scale from a known height or width, or a tape measure in the photo
  • A prompt aims Smart Trace at the stiles, rails or frame you need
  • Works on a phone, in portrait, with the loupe for precise points

Reverse engineering

Measure a part you cannot take apart.

Put the part on the printed reference sheet, photograph it, and Smart Trace returns the profile with holes and features named and on layers. Standardize hole sizes to the nearest fraction, add dimensions, export a manufacturing-ready DXF. Photograph two more sides and leave with a true solid instead.

  • Reference sheet: perspective and scale in one tap
  • Traced outlines at roughly 0.1 mm median error on benchmark parts
  • Three views become a STEP, a 3DM or an STL
  • Holes, recesses and bosses applied per shape before you save
  • Design the part that fits it: an add-on body built over the original, with the original subtracted at a clearance you choose
  • Fillet or chamfer the edges you pick, and draw pockets on any flat face, slanted ones included

Fabrication templates

Gaskets, brackets, shims, joint profiles.

Photograph the original, trace it, export a 1:1 DXF for CNC, laser, waterjet or plasma. Clean Up welds the seams so the profile is one closed line, Weld Ends and Snap Corners close the gaps a cutter would trip on, and Total Length tells you how much material a path needs.

  • Closed, clean profiles: weld, snap corners, standardize
  • Total path length for cut lists and gasket material
  • Offset for kerf or clearance, mirror for the matching hand
Restoration

Reproduce vintage and discontinued parts.

Capture hardware, trim profiles and decorative pieces that nobody makes any more. Trace accurate profiles for faithful reproduction, or build a solid from three sides for printing or machining a replacement.

  • Symmetry rebuilds a worn half from the good one
  • Fillets stay fillets, with a radius you can set
  • The photo rides on the 3D model so you can check every feature

Quick CAD sketches

No photo needed.

Draw mode gives you a blank canvas at a known size and unit, the full toolset, dimensions, and the same 1:1 DXF export. For the sketch you would otherwise do on paper and then redraw.

Phone and desktop

The whole workflow on the device you have.

Everything runs in the browser. On a phone the complete toolset works in landscape and portrait with touch gestures; on a desktop it behaves like a native CAD application with keyboard shortcuts and precise mouse control. Save a project on one and reopen it on the other.

Start with a photo. Leave with CAD.
